The next-generation Toyota HiLux has officially been revealed — and it’s the most advanced, most Australian HiLux ever built.
With a bold new design led by Toyota Australia, major upgrades to comfort and driveability, and a huge step up in technology and safety, this new model continues the HiLux’s legacy as Australia’s most trusted ute — and pushes it into the future.
The new HiLux’s exterior was spearheaded by Toyota’s Australian design team, working closely with engineers in Thailand and Japan. Inspired by a “Cyber Sumo” theme, it blends strength and modern style — with sharp new headlights, a wider stance, and completely redesigned front and rear ends that make it instantly recognisable.
Inside, the cabin has been completely reimagined with premium materials, modern tech, and improved visibility — perfect for both work and play.
Step inside and you’ll find a new three-tier dashboard, a 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen (standard across all grades), and a new digital instrument cluster — 7.0-inch on WorkMate and SR, and a full 12.3-inch on SR5 and above.
Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, voice command, and Toyota Connected Services come standard, while higher grades add luxurious touches like leather-accented seats, heated steering wheel, and 8-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat.
Even small touches have been rethought — from a more comfortable centre console layout to intuitive climate controls and smartly grouped steering wheel buttons for easier use on the move.
The new HiLux range will include 21 diesel variants, available in single, extra, and double cab configurations, with 4x2 or 4x4 drivelines, and manual or automatic transmissions. Grades will include the familiar WorkMate, SR, SR5, Rogue, and the return of the Rugged X — now tougher and more off-road capable than ever.
Under the bonnet, Toyota’s proven 2.8L turbo-diesel engine remains, producing 150kW and 500Nm (automatic) or 420Nm (manual). Automatic double-cab SR grades and above will now come standard with Toyota’s 48-volt V-Active technology, improving efficiency, smoothness, and low-speed response.
In a major milestone, Toyota has confirmed that a battery-electric HiLux (BEV) will join the lineup in 2026, offered exclusively for fleet customers. Available in double-cab SR and SR5 4x4 models, the HiLux BEV will feature electric motors on both axles paired with a lithium-ion battery — delivering strong capability with zero tailpipe emissions. It’s a significant step forward for fleets aiming to lower their environmental impact while maintaining the proven toughness of HiLux.
The new HiLux isn’t just smarter — it’s better to drive in every way. Electric power steering now comes standard, delivering smoother, lighter steering around town and more stability on highways or rough roads.
A new two-tier suspension tune ensures every HiLux suits its purpose — with heavy-duty springs and shocks for WorkMate and SR grades, and more comfort-focused tuning for SR5, Rogue, and Rugged X.
Off-road fans will love the standard rear locking differential, Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) system, and (on SR5 and above) the Multi-Terrain Monitor, which uses cameras around the vehicle to show obstacles and wheel placement for precise off-road navigation.
The legendary Rugged X is back and better than ever, built for serious off-roaders. With new underbody protection, recovery points, and enhanced off-road suspension tuning, it’s the most capable HiLux you can buy straight from the factory.
Every grade of the new HiLux comes equipped with the latest Toyota Safety Sense suite, including:
The new model also debuts Toyota’s first-ever Cabin Detection Alert System, which uses radar to detect passengers in the rear seats and reminds occupants when exiting the vehicle.
The all-new Toyota HiLux will arrive in Australian showrooms from December 2025, marking a new era for one of Australia’s most iconic vehicles.
With its bold new design, smarter technology, improved comfort and safety, and the exciting addition of battery-electric and hydrogen variants on the horizon — the HiLux is ready to take on the next generation of Australian adventures.
