Did You Know Series: How to Turn Off the Beeping Sound on Your Toyota Tailgate

Posted in Toyota Tips Insights

If you’ve ever jumped into your Toyota and been greeted by that annoying beeping sound every time the tailgate opens or closes, you’re not alone. It’s a safety feature designed to alert anyone nearby, but sometimes it’s more of a nuisance than a help, especially when you’re loading groceries, kids, or gear on a busy day.

The good news? You can turn it off, or reduce the volume through your vehicle’s settings. In this guide, we’ll show you how to do adjust it on the popular 250 series Prado.

Why Does Your Toyota Beep?

The tailgate beep is there to warn anyone around your vehicle that it’s moving. This helps prevent accidents or injuries, particularly in busy driveways or car parks. If you’re in a safe area and just want peace and quiet, adjusting the volume or turning it off is an easy fix.

How to Adjust or Turn Off the Tailgate Beep

  1. Access the Settings Menu from your steering wheel controls – On your dashboard display (instrument cluster), navigate to Vehicle Settings.
  2. Hold down the OK button and then navigate to the PBD function.
  3. Scroll down to the volume and adjust or mute as necessary. You can choose from multiple volume levels or turn it off completely.
  4. Confirm and Test – Open and close the tailgate to make sure it’s working the way you want.

Note: Menu names and locations may vary depending on your model year.

Quick Tips
